The Boston Fleet bolstered their blue line by inking first-round draft pick Haley Winn to a three-year standard player agreement, the team announced Wednesday.
Winn was selected second overall in the 2025 PWHL Entry Draft in June after spending four seasons at Clarkson University, where she amassed 131 points in 151 games for the Golden Knights.
“Haley is a complete, two-way defender, and we couldn’t be more excited to have her in Boston for three years,” Fleet general manager Danielle Marmer said in a statement released by the team. “She skates the game, has high compete and hockey IQ, and will be able to play in all situations. When we think about who is going to produce for us, defend against the best players in our league, or run a power play, Haley Winn can be an answer to all those situations.”
This past season, Winn recorded 14 goals and 32 assists in 38 games for Clarkson. Her 46 points earned her ECAC Player and Defender of the Year honors as a First Team All-American and Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award finalist.
“I’m so excited to officially have the opportunity to play in Boston,” Winn said in a team statement. “The city, as well as teammates and staff, have already welcomed me with open arms. I can’t wait to get things started and look forward to helping accomplish the big goal of bringing a Walter Cup to Boston.”
Along with Winn, Boston selected five other players on draft night, including forwards Ella Huber from Minnesota, Olivia Mobley from Minnesota Duluth and Boston College’s Abby Newhook; defender Riley Brengman and goaltender Amanada Thiele from Ohio State.
The Fleet signed second-round draftee Huber to a two-year standard player agreement on Aug. 13 following four NCAA seasons at the University of Minnesota.
“We are thrilled to lock in Ella Huber here in Boston,” Marmer said in a statement released by the team. “She’s an incredible skater with great speed and was a highly productive player during her time in Minnesota. She’s played down the middle but can easily shift to the wing, especially with the pace she brings. Ella is the type of player who can slot anywhere in the lineup, contribute on both ends of the ice, and isn’t afraid to block shots or kill penalties. We expect her to play a pivotal role in our offense.”
The 22-year-old Northfield, Illinois native played a total of 156 games for the Gophers, potting 52 goals and 88 assists for 140 points, including a career-high 48 points in 42 games as a captain her senior year, lighting the lamp 15 times and adding 33 assists.
