Jeremy Swayman, David Pastrnak make their preseason debuts

The Boston Bruins will have an NHL-heavy roster — including the preseason debuts of Jeremy Swayman and David Pastrnak — Monday night when they host the Philadelphia Flyers at TD Garden.

Swayman will not only get the start in net, but Bruins head coach Marco Sturm expects the goaltender to play the entire game, according to team content producer Belle Fraser.

The 26-year-old Alaskan native is looking to bounce back this season after posting a 22-29-7 record with a .892 save percentage and a 3.11 goals against average across 58 regular-season games in the 2024-25 campaign.

Pastrnak, who missed the first few days of training camp with a “nagging” injury, is expected to see time with his linemates — Elias Lindholm and Morgan Geekie.

“You can tell every day in practice he’s getting better and better and better,” Sturm said, per Fraser. “He’s just going to have a good feel for the game again after a long summer. He’s another guy we just want to build on it.”

Here’s the Bruins’ full roster for the matchup with the Flyers, per the team:

Forwards: Viktor Arvidsson, Matej Blumel, Morgan Geekie, Tanner Jeannot, Sean Kuraly, Elias Lindholm, Dans Locmelis, Fraser Minten, Casey Mittelstadt, David Pastrnak, Matthew Poitras, Alex Steeves, Pavel Zacha.

Defensemen: Jonathan Aspirot, Frederic Brunet, Hampus Lindholm, Charlie McAvoy, Andrew Peeke, Billy Sweezey, Nikita Zdorov

Goaltenders: Luke Cavallin, Michael DiPietro, Jeremy Swayman

Boston defeated Philadelphia, 4-3, at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Saturday to improve to 2-1-0 in exhibition action. Johnny Beecher, Dalton Bancroft (two goals) and Jeffrey Viel all lit the lamp for Boston, and DiPietro made 24 saves on 27 Philly shots for his first win of the preseason. The Flyers have lost three straight games after defeating the New York Islanders in a shootout to kick off their preseason.

Puck drop from TD Garden is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

Bruins Make First Round of Training Camp Cuts

Boston made its first cuts to trim the roster on Sunday, and there were no surprises.

Joey Abate, Luke Cavallin, Ty Cheveldayoff, Jackson Edward, Colin Felix, Ty Gallagher, Loke Johansson, Jake Schmaltz, Max Wanner and Simon Zajicek were all sent to Providence for the first day of the Baby B’s training camp on Monday.

With these cuts, the Bruins still have 26 forwards, 12 defensemen, and three goalies left on their camp roster.
