Boston begins its 2025-26 season on the road
The Boston Bruins kick off their new season under first-year head coach Marco Sturm when they face the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena on Wednesday night.
The Black and Gold are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 33-39-10 record and last-place finish in the Atlantic division last season. David Pastrnak led the Bruins last season with 106 points. He lit the lamp 43 times and added 63 assists in 82 games.
Across the sheet, Washington finished first in the Metropolitan division last season with an overall record of 51-22-9 for 111 points, and watched captain Alex Ovechkin eclipse Wayne Gretzky for the NHL’s most regular season goals with 897 all-time.
The Bruins missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season, while the Capitals defeated the Montreal Canadiens in the first round before falling to the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round.
Jeremy Swayman will get the start in net for Boston. He holds a 3-6-0 record against Washington in 10 games (nine starts) with a 1.98 goals-against average and .923 save percentage. The Capitals will have Logan Thompson start in goal. He is 3-1-0 against the Bruins across four games with a 1.98 goals-against average and .938 save percentage.
Boston dropped two of the three games against Washington last season. The two clubs tallied eight goals a side in the three contests. The B’s defeated the Caps 4-1 at TD Garden on Dec. 23 before falling to Washington 3-1 and 4-3 in the other two games.
Puck drop from Capital One Arena is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. ET on TNT.
