The Boston Bruins’ losing streak ended at six when they defeated the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 on Saturday to end a three-game home stand at TD Garden.

Along the six-game losing streak, the Black and Gold had lost all but two by a single goal — but were still outscored 28-19 in that stretch.

The bleeding stopped momentarily when Jeremy Swayman and the Bruins were able to hold off the top team in the Western Conference heading into the matchup.

“It feels good to beat one of the top teams in the League,” Swayman told reporters at TD Garden. “To get it done at home shows the resiliency we have in this locker room and it’s something we can really build on.”

The Bruins’ penalty kill was perfect in the win, killing off all three of Colorado’s opportunities. Boston also had a season-high 34 blocked shots, led by Elias Lindholm, who had six.

“It’s a momentum shifter in a game when guys are sacrificing their bodies for the greater good of the team,” Swayman said. “That’s important for us and gives us a ton of momentum moving forward, and I’m really thankful to have these guys in front of me.”

The Bruins hold an overall record of 4-6-0 in the first 10 games under new head coach Marco Sturm.

“We still have work to do,” Sturm told reporters after the win, per team-provided audio. “Nothing will change. I’m glad the bleeding is a little bit over today. We’ll be back at it tomorrow.”

The turning point of the game was when Morgan Geekie gave the Bruins a 3-1 lead with 4.5 seconds left in the second period.

“I thought that was the biggest goal of the day,” Sturm said. “Besides the first goal. But going into (the third period) with a two-goal lead, I think that was huge for us.”

The Bruins scored two goals in the opening frame to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

Viktor Ardvinsson recovered his own rebound behind the net and scored his first goal of the season to tie the game 1-1 at 14:16 of the first period, and Mikey Eyssimont lit the lamp for his second goal of the season 39 seconds later at 14:55 when his one-timer from the left hashmarks beat Scott Wedgewood five-hole to give Boston a 2-1 lead.

Here are more notes from Boston’s clutch win over the Avalanche:
— With his second-period tally, Geekie now leads the Bruins in goals with six in 10 games. David Pastrnak recorded the primary assist on the score and leads the team with 13 points.

— Swayman turned aside 31 of Colorado’s 33 shots for his third win of the season. In his six appearances between the pipes this season, Swayman boasts a .910 save percentage and a 2.85 goals-against average. He’s allowed 17 goals on 188 shots this season.

— Hampus Lindholm missed his seventh game this season with an undisclosed injury. Jordan Harris, Lindholm’s replacement, doesn’t have a timeline for his return, but Sturm told reporters before the game he is not ruling surgery out as a possibility.

— The Bruins will look to build on the win over Colorado when they head north of the border Monday to take on the Ottawa Senators. Puck drop from Canadian Tire Centre is scheduled for 7:30 on NESN and 98.5 The Sports Hub.
