Boston improved to 2-0-0 on the season
The Bruins earned a 4-3 overtime win Thursday against the Chicago Blackhawks in their home-opener at TD Garden.
On a 2-on-1 in overtime, Fraser Minten kept it for himself and sizzled a wrist shot past goalie Arvid Soderblom to secure the two points for Boston.
Joonas Korpisalo also made two terrific saves in OT, one on a Connor Bedard clean break-in. Korpisalo made 21 saves, including two on the penalty kill in his first win of the season.
The Bruins got some welcome production from the second line when Casey Mittelstadt opened the scoring 3:53 into the game. Mittelstadt was able to pounce on a loose puck in front of the net and poke it past Soderblom for his first goal of the season.
Unfortunately for Boston, as the first period came to an end, Hampus Lindholm had only logged 4:26 of ice time across six shifts before exiting with a lower-body injury.
Connor Bedard, Louis Crevier and Andre Burakovsky scored for Chicago, coming off an opening loss at Florida, and Soderblom made 29 saves.
Bedard erased Boston’s lead with a slap shot inside the left circle and Chicago took its first lead just 2:22 into the second period when Crevier scored on a shot from the top of the circle.
Jeannott tipped in a rebound to tie it at two midway through the second period, and the B’s retook the lead on Elias Lindholm’s second goal of the season.
Boston received a full two minutes of 5-on-3 time with 1:12 left in the middle frame. Lindholm notched his second power-play goal in two games, scoring on the two-man advantage 15 seconds into the third.
The lead proved to be short-lived as Burakovsky scored on a shot from the slot two minutes after Chicago trailed once again.
Minten sent the Black and Gold faithful home happy with the game winner 2:12 into the extra frame.
