After being routed by the Ottawa Senators, 7-2, on Monday night, the Bruins responded with a 5-2 dominant victory over the New York Islanders at TD Garden in the second game of Boston’s third back-to-back this month.
The Bruins spotted the Islanders an early two-goal lead in the first five minutes of the game, but Boston not only rallied in the second period, but the team dominated New York on the scoresheet with three unanswered goals from Elias Lindholm, David Pastrnak and Mikey Eyssimont.
Boston would pad its lead with goals from Morgan Geekie and Fraser Minten in the third period. Geekie now has five goals in his last five games and leads the team with eight.
After allowing two goals in the first, Joonas Korpisalo turned aside a season-high 33 shots from the Islanders, including 12 while shorthanded, for his second win of the season.
Here are more notes from Boston’s win:
— Hampus Lindholm returned to the lineup after missing the last five games with an undisclosed lower-body injury. The veteran defenseman registered his first point of the 2025-26 season when he notched the primary assist on Pastrnak’s second-period goal.
He finished the game with two blocked shots in 19:03 of ice time across 22 shifts.
— With Lindholm returning from injured reserve, Boston assigned Michael Callahan to Providence and made an unexpected change to the lineup — Mason Lohrei served as a healthy scratch and Johnathan Aspirot made his NHL debut.
“Once in a while, it’s good to scratch a player like that,” Sturm told reporters before the Bruins clash with the Islanders, per team-provided audio. “We expect more from him, and sometimes you have to press that reset button. It’s not like we want to bury him. No, I want to help him, and that’s part of the process. And again, you get some good things, but too many mistakes lately.”
— The Bruins’ penalty kill was perfect in the win, killing off all five of the Islanders’ power plays, including a Hampus Lindholm double minor that carried over from the second to third period.
— Boston will be back on TD Garden ice Thursday when they host the Buffalo Sabres. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on NESN and 98.5 The Sports Hub. The Bruins defeated the Sabres 3-1 on Oct. 11 in Boston.
