Bruins star David Pastrnak will miss his third straight game Tuesday when Boston takes on the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena.

The Black and Gold will be without the prolific goal scorer for the remainder of the week, according to head coach Marco Sturm.

“We gotta be careful with him. He’s not skating this week, so I don’t expect him to play this week,” Sturm told reporters in Detroit. “He definitely needs a few practices or a few skates, I would say.”

Even with Pastrnak out of the lineup in the second half of a home-and-home with Detroit, the Bruins activated Viktor Arvidsson from injured reserve and he will slot back in as the right wing alongside Casey Mittelstadt and Pavel Zacha.

“He’s just one of those players you kind of want to follow, just the way he leads on the ice,” Sturm said. “I thought when he got hurt, I remember that game in Montreal, that was probably his best stretch I’ve seen him playing for a while. Hopefully we can get him to be back to the way that he played during that time, but it’s definitely nice to have him back that’s for sure.”

With Arvidsson back in the lineup, Jeffrey Viel will be a healthy scratch for Boston.

Jeremy Swayman will make his second straight start after making 24 saves in the Bruins’ shootout win Saturday over the Red Wings.

“He’s too good right now,” Sturm said. “I don’t want him to rest…now, we had two days in between, I think gives him enough rest to have a few games in him. He’s doing excellent. It’s gonna be a tough game again today and I think he’s the right guy.”

Across the ice, Detroit has lost its last four games and five of its last six. John Gibson is expected to get the nod for the Red Wings. He posts a .865 save percentage and a 3.59 goals-against average through 13 games this season. Gibson has a 6-4-1 record in 12 starts against the Bruins with a 2.69 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage.
